I'm a Sherlock Holmes in the Making

Mwahaha XD You must be thinking, this gal has elephant-thick skin.

...But it's true, I'm an amateur detective! Somewhat :P

You see, I was wondering from this poster below:

Cheesy Macaroni! Is that Holmes and Watson?! 0.0

I always thought they'll look like this:

Aren't they supposed to be like, a lil frumpy?

And then I put two and two together. Eureka! The magical word's Hollywood!

Which studio will want to invest in frumpy detectives aye?

I don't think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ever intended for Holmes to ditch his signature tweed coat, but those are pretty awesome outfits there ^^

Dandified version of the world's best known fictional detective XD

Need more proof that I'm an amateur Sherlock Holmes?

Me sniffed out the location of the mystery image Nuffnang sneakily hid in 2 blogs =D

Try finding my tiny watermark too, and spy on which sites I browse~ ;)

My watermark's really pretty and sweet (humor me? I hardly edit my pics, even if it's just MS Paint :P) , but it's barely visible. Boo-hoo :(

The next puzzle I want to solve is the mystery of Stephy-nie XD

I stalk follow her on Blogger, FB, MSN and even have her number... but I've never met her! o.0

How now strawberry cow? Surely I must decode the mystery surrounding her, and find out more about the case whereby she helpfully posted clues in her blog on how to track down the images :P

Thanks to Nuffnang, I'll be joining other Nuffies for the premiere of New Moon :)

Feel kinda bad la, coz there's lots of twi-hards who would really want to go, while I'm not a Twilight fan and got the opportunity instead.

However, as much as I don't really care for Edward, Bella and Jacob; I really do like Alice and the Cullens.

I love the bond between the members of the Cullen family, even though they're not blood relatives.

Those parts I'm definitely looking forward to.

So I guess it's... New Moon here I come! ;)

Will try to go with something vintagy or tres chic to complement Alice's sense of style ^^

P/S: Who's going? ^^

Most Nuffnang screenings I feel so shy to walk up to other Nuffies and intro myself, whether as fellow Nuffie or readers of their blogs.

So let me know in advance so I can look you up during the screening? XD

Howling at the New Moon

By now, everyone and their grandaunts would probably know I'm not a rabid (pun intended XD) Twilight fan.

The - undead *ouch* - giveaways?

: 20-year old vampire-loving female blogger who has only blogged once about Twilight
: Has not had any countdown celebrations for New Moon's screening
: Does not wish to change her name to Adele Cullen or Adele Black
: Will never be caught going around gushing about Team Edward or Team Jacob

Despite the overly-mushy, archaic lovey dovey tone of the Twilight Saga... there's one saving grace yet for the descendants of Dracula! *hip hip hooray*

Her name is Alice, Alice Cullen XD

Edward, Bella and Jacob can have their fun looking lovelorn... just give me Alice and I'll be fang-tastically happy ^^

For one thing, this girl's got style!

Alice and Jasper

It takes attitude to pull off Vintage without looking ridiculously last century, which Alice does despite being from... erm, the last century.

She's talented, gutsy, strong, fun and caring. Proving that it is possible to be nice and yet fun to be around ^^

Halloween's done and over with, but with New Moon coming around, get some style tips from Alice and hit the cinema looking fashionably chic!

Hair

Go for a whole new, fresher look with a skilfully done pixie cut that accentuates sharp features.

Plus point: Do it right and you definitely won't be getting "OMG!You look like an auntie!" comments ;)

Attire

While it wouldn't be feasible to don such warm attire in sunny Malaysia, take a tip from Alice by pairing an elegant scarf with a contemporary coat-like long top in a muted yet "young" shade of blue.

Alternatively, opt for preppy checks with an edgy crocheted sleeveless cardigan.

Alice is definitely one for Chictopia! :)

Accessories

Replica of Alice's necklace

Ribbons and cameo brooches need not necessarily be old-fashioned. Add a touch of femininity to your outfit without giving "feminine" a bad rep :P

Lastly, don't forget to smile ^^

Even if your partner, standing right beside you, looks like a jiang shi

As part of my devious scheming to get fangirls all screamingly excited (while I take over the world by becoming a bewitching vamp XD ), here's the trailer to New Moon.

Enjoy hopefully :P

And if you did enjoy that, what're ya waiting for? XD

This New Moon rises only once, and Nuffnang's giving 30 bloggers invites to the exclusive, premiere screening of New Moon.

Alice! Wheeeeee!

P/S: Wasn't vampire baseball in Twilight so awesomely fun? =D

Nuffnang District 9 Premiere Screening

Thanks to Nuffnang's District 9 blog kit... my review gets to seem more, ahem, "professional" ^^

The Synopsis:

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare - they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable - he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Director Neill Blomkamp teams with producer Peter Jackson for this tale of extraterrestrial refugees stuck in contemporary South Africa. It's been 28 years since the aliens made first contact, but there was never any attack from the skies, nor any profound technological revelation capable of advancing our society. Instead, the aliens were treated as refugees. They were the last of their kind, and in order to accommodate them, the government of South Africa set up a makeshift home in District 9 as politicians and world leaders debated how to handle the situation. As the humans begin to grow wary of the unwelcome intruders, a private company called Multi-National United (MNU) is assigned the task of controlling the aliens. But MNU is less interested in the aliens' welfare than attempting to understand how their weaponry works. Should they manage to make that breakthrough, they will receive tremendous profits to fund their research.

Unfortunately, the highly advanced weaponry requires alien DNA in order to be activated. When MNU field operative Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) is exposed to biotechnology that causes his DNA to mutate, the tensions between the aliens and the humans intensifies. Wikus is the key to unlocking the alien's technology, and he quickly becomes the most wanted man on the planet. Ostracized and isolated, Wikus retreats to District 9 in a desperate bid to shake his dogged pursuers.

Honour Roll:

Directed by
Neill Blomkamp

Written by Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell

Produced by:

Peter Jackson

Carolynne Cunningham

Executive Producers:

Ken Kamins

Bill Block

Paul Hanson

Elliot Ferwerda

Cast:

Sharlto Copley

David James

Her Thoughts:

First of all... is District 9 a sci-fi, thriller, horror, social commentary or action flick? Personally, I think it fits into all of those categories XD

The presence of Aliens certainly qualify the movie as sci-fi, whilst the fast paced and somewhat violent storyline fits into the thriller/horror/action movie mold.

The surprise therefore would be the social commentary and pseudo-documentary part of District 9, which is also one of the highlights of the film and what sets it apart from others such as Cloverfield.

Whilst some viewers definitely found the camcording and documentary aspect of the movie confusing, it's an interesting screen technique that's rapidly gaining momentum.

Come on, admit it, we all love a good conspiracy theory... and District 9 cleverly plays on the audience's fascination and fear of the unknown, leaving us clinging to the seats and cringing at all the blood, gore and action that fills 3/4 of the movie.

Thus, word of advice: District 9 is not a date movie unless you're really sure your guy/gal likes gore, blood and profanity ;P

However, to quote a friend of mine: "It's produced by peter Jackson!". Err, right. That does automatically qualify the movie as a blockbuster classic eh.

Kudos though to first-time director Neil Blomkamp for a fascinating movie which would in the future probably provide many film scholars hours of "fun" analysing and dissecting the screen techniques and theories behind District 9.

Sharlto Copley is convincing as well as the stereotyped cowardly, corny, geeky Wikus van der Merwe (even the name is like wth >< ). His character is probably the only one that goes through much inner development as circumstances force him to become a fighter and rebel who wants only to return to the side of his beloved wife.

Tentalizing "shots":

Interesting? Wanna watch? :P

The Verdict:

If you're not adverse to...

:: blood
:: gore
:: Aliens/"prawns" * teehee* XD

... stop reading at this point and go book your tix to the show!

:D

District 9's
the must catch sci-fi/pseudo-documentary flick of the year! ^^

The movie starts off slow and meandering but trust me, it's good and the pace picks up towards the latter half ;)

P/S: I love the ending ^^

TGIF! Muacks! ^^

Nuffnang, I <3 U! Thanks for springing a nice little pre-birthday surprise :)

I'm going to District 9!

Just hope I won't be too spooked by the show. The rating is R: Bloody violence and pervasive language XD

Sounds gory, but I like aliens so we'll see ;)

Haha, it'll be a different kind of end to the birthday festivities... clinging onto the seat i nthe cinema hall as the hours of 12th August tick away.

Probably bringing along my godmother again, or KF. The gal needs transport to and fro to Cineleisure at night =P

Any other bloggers going? Let me know! ^^

Jeng, Jeng, Jeng!

~ Quiz time XD

What does.....

Peter Jackson

Adele's 20th Birthday

Extraterrestrial Diplomacy

Nuffnang!

....Share in common? * ?_? *

Hehehehe.... the answer is:

Nuffnang's awesome enough to organize a Premiere Screening for District 9 on August 12th, the very day this gal saw the world! ^^

And well, y'know how Star Wars, Dune, Mars, UFOs... are some of my favourites :D

Hehe, if you'll ask Bernie, she'll have you know that at one time I'll jokingly tell people I was from Mars, lol.

So yeah, I guess this is one movie that would be great to watch.

Who knows, with advancements in interstellar exploration, one day we might really be living with aliens in our backyard and have to deal with alien-human diplomacy.

Useful movie to watch right? ;)

For more info, teleport over to this magical http XD

P/S: Nuffnag's having some tech difficulties. Will post up direct link to the contest blog post once I've got access to it Posted :)

Thanks to Nuffnang's Premiere Screening, I brought my godmother to TGV 1U yesterday night for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ^^

It was my first Nuffnang screening, so I wasn't very sure how to collect the tickets, and for a moment I panicked and wondered if I really had been invited for the show, but luckily everything turned out alright XD

P.C. Ichigo Ramen's Reviews

The Case

So, how was the movie? W-ell.... if you really have to watch it, there's nothing to lose ^^

While not particularly good, it's no hardship to sit through the entire movie as it's rather fast-paced and entertaining.

The jokes can get cheesy and overtly sexual though, so just a little warning for the sexually adversed XD

Besides, there really are some gems of a momment. Teehee.

Surprisingly, with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in the lead, the best acting and scenes come from those involving some of the supporting cast.

We especially loved Noureen DeWulf's Melanie - the no nonesense, long suffering assistant to McConaughey's Connor Mead :)

Another surprise was Emma Stone's sometimes annoying but funny Allison Vandermeersh, Connor's ghost of girlfriends past.

Michael Douglas is also credible as the womanizing and very much dead Uncle Wayne, who is a (wicked XD ) father figure to Connor.

Lastly, Kasey Russel and Devin Brochu are simply adorable as the young Coner and Jenny Perotti. Hehe, there'll definitely be an "aww..." moment when the two youngsters light up the screen ^^

Look out for a sexay Christina Milian as tween popstar Keelia as well =D

Time After Time
, one of the songs featured in the movie :)

Verdict

Overall, 5.5/10. Doesn't matter if you don't watch the movie, but doesn't hurt as well to give it a go =)

P/S: The I *heart* Nuffnang can badge is cute ^^

‘I Can Relate to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past‘

Ooo-la-la! The gals are going to love this new one from Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. Teehee *evil*

It's like the perfect 'get-back' situation ever, for anyone who has at some point had mental pictures of the gruesome kind about the oh-so-smug guy who thinks he's worth a million bucks.

Well, I know my naughty side sure does have fantasies of those sort XD

Moving on, this is how the story of the movie goes:

Celebrity photographer Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) loves freedom, fun and women…in that order. A committed bachelor with a no-strings policy, he thinks nothing of breaking up with multiple women on a conference call while prepping his next date.

Connor’s brother Paul is more the romantic type. In fact, he’s about to be married. Unfortunately, on the eve of the big event, Connor’s mockery of romance proves a real buzz-kill for Paul, the wedding party and a houseful of well wishers—including Connor’s childhood friend Jenny (Jennifer Garner), the one woman in his life who has always seemed immune to his considerable charm.

Just when it looks like Connor may single-handedly ruin the wedding, he gets a wake-up call from the ghost of his late Uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas), the hard-partying, legendary ladies man upon whose exploits Connor has modeled his lifestyle. Uncle Wayne has an urgent message for his protégé, which he delivers through the ghosts of Connor’s jilted girlfriends—past, present and future—who take him on a revealing and hilarious odyssey through a lifetime of failed relationships.

Together, they will discover what turned Connor into such a shameless player and whether he has a second chance to find – and this time, keep – the love of his life.

Anyway, the first thing that popped into mind was:

It seriously hurts a lot, especially when you know the person you've given your love and trust to has cheated on you.

And I can definitely relate to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, because I've been in love with a guy that couldn't seem to have a place in his heart for only one gal.

In the end though, while revenge may be sweet, the most satisfying ending would be to have a repentant heart-breaker =P

I guess romance stories about reformed rakes are bestsellers for a reason, lol =D

Watching the trailer, some parts of the movie make me go "aww... so sweet", which I think is what will make Ghosts of Girlfriends Past a heart-warming show.

After all, while revenge may be sweet, everyone dreams of a happily ever after ^^

[Us foodies and kakiis sharing a yummy meal of Melaka's famous Sate Celup]

A (good) picture is worth a thousand words, and every picture tells a story.

This picture may be simple, but to me and the other "hands" in the picture, it's worth all the words in the world as it represents the relationship we share - as each others' kakiis ^^

We are by no means similar, each from different parts of Malaysia and with different tastes and preferences. As seen in the picture, us 9 girls even have different ways of holding the lidi (stick)! XD

However, just like the circle we've formed with our hands, our friendship has strengthened into a bond of unity throughout the 4 day PJ-PD-Melaka-PJ roadtrip we embarked on together.

In the process, we realized that despite our differences, we do have similarities which make us gel... such as a love of food that saw us reveling in the mouth watering delights Melaka had to offer.

Hence, the picture of me sharing a "close-knit" dinner with the angels, a.k.a. kakiis, in my life. Sometimes, it's a shared moment like this which serves as a reminder of how lucky it is to have buddies to ride the ups and downs with =)

Thanks Yi Qing, May Zhang, Pei Rong, Yen, Emily, Sze May, Su Sean and V for keeping the circle of friendship, and making it a great time ^^

PhotobucketPhotobucket

As good friends are for keeps, the crazy cool Kakiis - Friends++ Connected social network utility makes keeping in touch so simple that there's no simply excuse to neglect your pals.

With Kakiis, you're able to group your friends into 'circles' and have fun interacting with your friends within the circles, as well as conveniently share videos and photos with one another. No more mass emailing everyone those post-exam holiday pictures ;)

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Kakiis and Nuffnang have also teamed up to organize the 'A Moment With Your Kakiis' contest that has set the blogosphere buzzing.

*clickety click* to celebrate friendship and win yourself some really cool prizes =)
