In short, growing up reading about his creations in the local newspapers does leave an impact, even when I was the teenage sort-of tomboy scorning clothes that weren't practical as a waste of money XD

I've been MIA for so long on my bloggu :(

My modem fried and sizzled on Monday, in a heavy thunderstorm. I've a new one now but guess what? I don't know how to connect to the wireless at my house through my laptop T.T (Noob, noob NOOB! >.< )

So, I have to use the computer in the study room, accompanied by lots and lots of mosquitoes that like to feast on me. Gee!

This is the very book by Novala Takemoto on which the Kamikaze Girls movie is based on. The very same movie that made me first aware of Lolita Brand (yup, Brand with a much revered capital B) clothing.

Thanks to Nuffnang, I'll be joining other Nuffies for the premiere of New Moon :)

Feel kinda bad la, coz there's lots of twi-hards who would really want to go, while I'm not a Twilight fan and got the opportunity instead.

However, as much as I don't really care for Edward, Bella and Jacob; I really do like Alice and the Cullens.

I love the bond between the members of the Cullen family, even though they're not blood relatives.

Those parts I'm definitely looking forward to.

So I guess it's... New Moon here I come! ;)

I'm still not a coffee fan but I've been learning some basics from dad.

The lattes above are really good cups of coffee, and not just because of the splendid latte art.

Firstly, the crema has to be good, followed by the latte froth, in order to sustain a visually enticing piece of latte art.

Having an espresso? Look out for crema. A good cup will have a thick layer of crema, which signifies the quality of the coffee bean and the coffee extractor.

The crema is thus linked to the essential oils in the coffee bean.

On another note, I've been very touched by the suicide of Robert Enke.

It struck a particularly deep chord in me because he was fighting the same battle that I fight now - a battle that millions continue to fight.

Depression, anxiety disorder, and especially the dreaded fear of failure.

To quote Dirke Enke, father of Robert:

"He did not have faith in himself. He was trapped within his own ambition."

It's frighteningly familiar, and during particularly dark days, Robert Enke might very well be Adele.

Ambition. Such a strong word with huge potential for self-destruction. There's always the fear that good is merely not enough, only the best would do. But how many can actually be the best?

And faith in one's self. It is so easily stripped away and deconstructed. So fragile and easily shattered.

Often, Liberal Arts and Business Studies are polar opposites in terms of ideology. Whilst Arts eschews materialism and conformity, Business Studies encourages profits and - to an extent - conformity.

Thankfully, I've got both to keep me in balance, walking the middle path.

2 years on and despite the constant struggle not to sink underwater, I'm so grateful for what education at Monash has taught me.

Although I would not have wished for all the tears and sweat that have been shed, I've grown up. Tougher, wiser, more resilient, but still with the touch of naivete that I hope never to lose.

Truly, Ancora Imparo - I am always learning.

Thank you, Robert, for the moments of self reflection which you have given us, and for highlighting the destructive nature of a mental condition that is still highly stigmatized.

Now I can finally understand the fuss over Lady Gaga's musical education. I love the jazzy interpretation of Viva la Vida. The trick is just not to compare it with Coldplay's.

Lady Gaga sounds vocally more impressive than Chris Martin when it's live and acoustic though, or it could be due to the video quality.

Either way, I love both versions :D

My first time going 3D at a local cinema! And boy oh boy was Up nice ^^ I didn't expect the show to be romantic (this element of Up's hardly advertised) or to burst into tears ;)

Embarrassing, k? Was sniffing away and KF got so worried that I had to tell him I was crying because some of the scenes were so moving, and that yes I'm okay XD

Yay! Finally blogging again! =D

Sometime back, I decided I want a lomo camera and started doing research into this field *randomness* XD

It seemed like my kind of thing - just shoot and have fun capturing stuff on film. But, I concluded lomos are overpriced and decided normal old skool film camera would do.

Guess I won't be needing one though. My 3.0 megapixel phone camera and 4.0 megapixel digicam produces lomo-esque pics because of my 'artsy' photography skills =P

School work's brought me down these few days >.<

Lots of test and assignments due from now until September. And the course syllabus for some subjects are pure killjoy. I don't know if I can pull through this semester... just living on hope and a prayer now.

After 2 film noirs, I've come to the conclusion I dislike the genre. I really admire the stylistic aspects of noir, but the themes are just too disturbing. I like movies that are just that little bit more hopeful :)

Anyway, the story is that on Thursday afternoon in uni, I started feeling tired and weak. My condition got worse and by night time, I was throwing up and had diarrhea.

Thus, was feeling pretty awful and this morning, I was quickly rushed to the clinic after complaining of body aches and a fever.

The doctor diagnosed me with... food poisoning :(

Watching Vertigo on Thurday morning during lecture probably made the condition worse too. it's like one of the most disturbing shows I've watched :(

Thanks to Nuffnang's District 9 blog kit... my review gets to seem more, ahem, "professional" ^^

The Synopsis:

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare - they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Her Thoughts:

First of all... is District 9 a sci-fi, thriller, horror, social commentary or action flick? Personally, I think it fits into all of those categories XD

The presence of Aliens certainly qualify the movie as sci-fi, whilst the fast paced and somewhat violent storyline fits into the thriller/horror/action movie mold.

The surprise therefore would be the social commentary and pseudo-documentary part of District 9, which is also one of the highlights of the film and what sets it apart from others such as Cloverfield.

Whilst some viewers definitely found the camcording and documentary aspect of the movie confusing, it's an interesting screen technique that's rapidly gaining momentum.

Come on, admit it, we all love a good conspiracy theory... and District 9 cleverly plays on the audience's fascination and fear of the unknown, leaving us clinging to the seats and cringing at all the blood, gore and action that fills 3/4 of the movie.

Thus, word of advice: District 9 is not a date movie unless you're really sure your guy/gal likes gore, blood and profanity ;P

However, to quote a friend of mine: "It's produced by peter Jackson!". Err, right. That does automatically qualify the movie as a blockbuster classic eh.

Kudos though to first-time director Neil Blomkamp for a fascinating movie which would in the future probably provide many film scholars hours of "fun" analysing and dissecting the screen techniques and theories behind District 9.

Sharlto Copley is convincing as well as the stereotyped cowardly, corny, geeky Wikus van der Merwe (even the name is like wth >< ). His character is probably the only one that goes through much inner development as circumstances force him to become a fighter and rebel who wants only to return to the side of his beloved wife.

Hatachi... 20... it's the year in Japan where a teen becomes an adult. This is my last post as a 19 year old ;)

Well, 19 was a bittersweet year to be... just like the years from 16 onwards. I laughed, I cried and I learned a lot more about life.

Coming to terms with who I am, and being proud of myself, is still not easy. I'm always wanting more out of myself and life.

But... once in awhile, life gives a little reminder of how precious it is to have freedom and to breathe. And for that, for all the things (big or small) that put a smile on my face, I am forever grateful.

So many tragedies/deaths and near tragedies lately. Everyone, stay safe k? ^^

One of those is Felipe Massa's injuries from a freak racing accident.

As a Ferrari and Formula 1 fan, it's very sad and heartbreaking to know that he may never get to race again, especially since the accident wasn't his fault.

Thank goodness he's out of danger now and narrowly escaped death. Bless him.

Thanks to Nuffnang's Premiere Screening, I brought my godmother to TGV 1U yesterday night for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past ^^

It was my first Nuffnang screening, so I wasn't very sure how to collect the tickets, and for a moment I panicked and wondered if I really had been invited for the show, but luckily everything turned out alright XD

The Case

So, how was the movie? W-ell.... if you really have to watch it, there's nothing to lose ^^

While not particularly good, it's no hardship to sit through the entire movie as it's rather fast-paced and entertaining.

The jokes can get cheesy and overtly sexual though, so just a little warning for the sexually adversed XD

Besides, there really are some gems of a momment. Teehee.

Surprisingly, with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in the lead, the best acting and scenes come from those involving some of the supporting cast.

We especially loved Noureen DeWulf's Melanie - the no nonesense, long suffering assistant to McConaughey's Connor Mead :)

Another surprise was Emma Stone's sometimes annoying but funny Allison Vandermeersh, Connor's ghost of girlfriends past.

Michael Douglas is also credible as the womanizing and very much dead Uncle Wayne, who is a (wicked XD ) father figure to Connor.

Lastly, Kasey Russel and Devin Brochu are simply adorable as the young Coner and Jenny Perotti. Hehe, there'll definitely be an "aww..." moment when the two youngsters light up the screen ^^

Look out for a sexay Christina Milian as tween popstar Keelia as well =D

Verdict

Overall, 5.5/10. Doesn't matter if you don't watch the movie, but doesn't hurt as well to give it a go =)

It's the season to bid farewell and welcome back the ones who've spread their wings over vast expenses of land to far away places across the sea.

I'm sorely missing one partner in crime, but another has return for the Summer - while I'm enjoying my tropical Winter break... so much for the ironies of life.

Jo once said to me that she hates goodbyes, because she's had her fair share. It really does seem that the older we get, the more we have to part with family/friends/lovers/plushies XD

Wait... plushies?! Yeah, I'm random like that. Project: Clean-up room has started! Haha... I'm not gung-ho about it. The idea of moving my plushie collection to the new pad doesn't seem very feasible, logistically and space-wise.

But... I don't want my plushies to lose their homes :'(

So....... I'm testing out Free Realms instead! A twist to the MMORPG genre, it promises to be more than just a fighting game.

The other plus point for me is that no big, messy downloads! Just download a plug-in (appears under Firefox's Extensions section after d/l) and voila... ready to play ^^

Dreams

...to some people, dreams are everything in life. I knew that was what defined me as well once upon a time. It was my dreams, or nothing at all.

Then reality caught up and I lost hope in life. What was the point when all I ever wanted life to be, could not be?

Until now, this girl is trying to find her footing. Friends have gone on to pursue their own interests or at the very least, reconciled themselves with the inevitable.

In her heart she is envious, dreaming of the interiors of museums she will never pace, the historical sites and artifacts she can only hope to live long enough to see. The award winning books she might never pen, the fashion shows that will not miss her presence, the films she may never direct or star in... the dream life that is not hers to lead.

On really bad days, I still cry for that Adele, the one who feels trapped in the conventional direction she tried so hard to avoid taking.

However, she and I both know that it's ok, there is still hope and balance between dreams and harsh reality.

I first got to know of this contest through my friend Bernie, a dear ex-classmate of mine, as her design is one of those in competition currently. (entry #26, it's real cute and cheeky, typical Bernie ^^ )

However, apart from being a bag print design contest, this is essentially a breast cancer awareness movement from gin & Jacqie, supported by Emmagem and various other corporate sponsors.

Sadly, as a young women myself, and having lost an aunt 5 years ago to breast cancer, I'm one of those people who do not take enough measures to be proactive against the big C.

I've seen the devastating effects with my own eyes - mastectomy, loss of confidence, hair loss and overall weak health, among other complications caused by breast cancer.

Yet, all these thoughts are pushed aside by the assumption that breast cancer is a middle-age concern. It doesn't happen to a 19 year old.

However, each step now is a step forward to protect the future self of the 19 year old. Plus, I've got other female relatives whom I can't bear to see them go through the pain and turmoil of breast cancer, or any other form of cancer.

Thus, I really appreciate the the contest website has links to breast cancer awareness sites, as well as true stories from cancer survivors and caregivers.

Having the design contest is a push in the right direction, as it promotes breast cancer awareness among youths who will grow up to be the next generation of survivors and warriors against the life-claiming disease.

You might have noticed, amidst all the flurry over M.J.'s death, I've yet to mention it even once on this blog.

In fact, I've tend to avoid speaking about it as well offline. Apart from not being a huge fan, I'm still, kinda well, in shock.

To me, M.J.'s the sort of person whom you don't expect to die. He's just Someone, who occasionally appears in the news, and then isn't heard from again until the next big splash.

Right now, it feels that way. Reading news reports about his death seems more surreal than sad. I wonder if that's how some people reacted to James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and J.F. Kennedy's death?

In a way, they're immortal. To people like me, they're not 'dead'. They're just going away for a long time. Seeing the words RIP or death, alongside the name Michael Jackson, is just unreal. Like a scene from a bad movie.

Thus, none of that tribute business here. Just a highlight of my fav M.J. songs. It's not the standard Heal the World, Black or White, and Man in the Mirror either.

After my molotov cocktail of pills for various medical conditions, especially the recent dastardly triple threat (runny nose + cough + sore throat), I craved for the two boxes of goodies in my fridge >.<

Boxes of Forbidden goodies, because they happen to be a chocolate almond-ish slice and the new chocolate brownies/fudge from La Manila - dangerous territory for a sore throat.

But... to a flu patient deprived of the sugary sin of chocolate... those two boxes were paradise!

So, shame-faced and sneakily moving the boxes unnoticed to my room, I dug in =.=

Verdict?

P.C. Ichigo Ramen's Reviews: Edition 1

Beauskin Painless Hair Removal Plate

Claims to:

Painlessly remove hair.

Looks:

Pastel pink. Top part not unlike the underside of an UFO. Seriously.

How it works:

Gently rub the plate in a circular motion on your skin. Apparently not advisable to use plate as a scrub or use on wet skin.

P.C. I.R's thoughts:

My heart was set on getting this, no thanks to my genes (it's karma, my mom ate loads of hairy crabs when she had me >.< ) and because "nice Asian girls" are supposed to have skin that resembles a diving platform: smooth and hairless.

So... after shelling out RM9 for this from an online store and eagerly unwrapping it, I was immediately faced with a problem. (Note: ebay is selling the exact product for around AUD6 and SGD9)

Almost as if to prove the authenticity of the product, there are absolutely no English instructions. Everything is in Japanese. Thank goodness for the WWW.

Another gripe about the Asian stereotype is that "nice Asian girls" are at the maximum a petite small M size. Once again, thanks to my genes, I'm more towards a large M/small L size.

As the product is quite small, about standard palm size, the surface area that the plate covers is actually quite small. Compare 5 mins to shave a pair of legs with at least 1 hour of "gentle circular motions". Unless i'm feeling particularly lesisurely, I'll take the shaver anytime pls.

Test time:

Patience aside, the plate does almost nothing for me in the hair removal department. Imagine sandpapering your skin, just with a much gentler feel. After a few rubs, the pad on the plate sort of lost it's mojo.

Erm... random as I may be, I'm not keen on achieving the single patch of hairless skin look.

The verdict:

Don't bother getting it for effectiveness. An epilator, Veet, or ye plain ole shaver seems miraculous compared to this little gizmo.

Holiday resolution: save up. So guess I've got to be choosy with where I go and what I do too. Bummer.

Dug out this post from my August 2007 entry, and... well, I feel it's the time of the year again for such a reminder, what with all the ranting about assignments/uni/exams/life/etc.

Adele is blessed. The next time, before going into a tirade of complaints centered around my non-existent love life or my kiasu-ism... I will think twice and remember the millions of sorely disadvantaged children and adults in various countries, and count my blessings.

Although I may be currently ~~traumatized by that idiot~~ bf-less and likely to go for SAM prom ~~pathetically~~ dateless or without the guy of my dreams XD ... those are but really tiny matters compared to starvation, war, etc.

I've got caring relatives who worked themselves to the bone today just to give me a blast of an 18th birthday, friends who came to celebrate with me even though one lives quite far away in Shah Alam and 3 of them have tests tomorrow, and a lot of good food to eat today.

Which brings us back once again to the fact that while everyone was stuffed with food (and I had birthday buffet lunch at Renaissance Hotel as a treat too), there are way too many people out in the world who haven't had a single morsel to eat today.

Every ten seconds, at least 2 people die from starvation.

Truly, I feel very very blessed and fortunate.

MNS takes a tough stand against conserving Malaysia's nature heritage, and works tirelessly to lobby relevant parties to preserve mother nature's gifts to (wo)mankind.

Thus, they are my organization of choice in DiGi's Click to Save campaign =)

I've survived the semester thus far ^^

Pre-exam post mortem:

Media Studies: Joy! No exam hurdle requirement! If all goes well, I'll never have to retake this unit!

International Business: Assignments were....... to complete, but at least the grades were =D

Now it's down to stage 2: exams for IB! *yeulch*

Managerial Communication: Bleuk, assignment grades were disappointing. Nevertheless, will definitely pass IF pass the exam. If not, welcome back to man comm >.<

Macroeconomic Policy: *thunderstorm* <---- describes A LOT.
*wonders why she ever took this subject* Oh right, it's compulsory for an Econs major.

Horrid assignment, disappointing mid-sem test... Oh yeah, I'm loving this unit, not.

Thank goodness today's macro policy test was open book >.< Even then, I had to place hope on my lucky stars and just choose a,b, c or d. I'm so going to flail in finals =_=

Y'know, I don't ever read literature anymore during term time. My brain can't take the extra effort these days. Assignments drain 85% of those little grey cells.

Believe it or not, this girl's starting to read chic lit. Yes, CHIC LIT. That goodness-forbid-gives-me-shivers genre XD

Most of the back cover blurbs still make me go "wth!", "..... gahhhh!", "gosh, people actually like reading this??", and many many more colourful expressions. Hehe.

.... but, there's actually quite a few that are less painful to read! Hip hip hooray! ^^

‘I Can Relate to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past‘

Ooo-la-la! The gals are going to love this new one from Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. Teehee *evil*

It's like the perfect 'get-back' situation ever, for anyone who has at some point had mental pictures of the gruesome kind about the oh-so-smug guy who thinks he's worth a million bucks.

Well, I know my naughty side sure does have fantasies of those sort XD

Moving on, this is how the story of the movie goes:

Celebrity photographer Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) loves freedom, fun and women…in that order. A committed bachelor with a no-strings policy, he thinks nothing of breaking up with multiple women on a conference call while prepping his next date.

Connor’s brother Paul is more the romantic type. In fact, he’s about to be married. Anyway, the first thing that popped into mind was:

It seriously hurts a lot, especially when you know the person you've given your love and trust to has cheated on you.

And I can definitely relate to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, because I've been in love with a guy that couldn't seem to have a place in his heart for only one gal.

In the end though, while revenge may be sweet, the most satisfying ending would be to have a repentant heart-breaker =P

I guess romance stories about reformed rakes are bestsellers for a reason, lol =D

Watching the trailer, some parts of the movie make me go "aww... so sweet", which I think is what will make Ghosts of Girlfriends Past a heart-warming show.

After all, while revenge may be sweet, everyone dreams of a happily ever after ^^

According to this site:

A fruity floral fragrance. Colorful, tasty and sweet.
With top notes of pineapple, raspberry, cranberry and blackberry.
With mid notes of candied violet, pear blossom and sugar rose.
With base notes of lollipop accord, hinoki wood and crystal amber.

It's definitely sweet-ish & slightly musky, without smelling 'over-ripe' though.

The latter is best avoided (L'Occitane's Cherry fragrance >.< ) if you're not too keen on attracting unwanted attention from bugs.
For daily-wear basis, I love Garden of creation! ^^

Best of all, it's a budget perfume! And check out the rainbow hues on the bottle XD

Hehe... affordable, looks good and smells great. What is there to dislike ya? =)

Had to skip the Nuffnang-Maxis party... so sad :( Really wanted to go Maison (I'm a club-scape noobie la), but darn, KL's not my territory. Ended up not having a ride OR a date (hmph... KF ditched me *just kidding XD *)

Someone, PLEASE bring me partying and having FUN.

Doesn't have to be a club, seriously, I still had a blast at today's MAOU ice-breaking session. Kekeke... Got to see club members do the Hare Hare Yukai dance =P

First things first, Comic Fiesta was a great experience. Although I only attended the first day, I think I'm seriously addicted to cosplaying =P

There were so many great cosplayers (!) (costume, in-characterness & photography posing) and booths that I was so tempted to splurge and get dar to photograph everything in sight XD

Kakiis Nite Out!
Version: Get the Party Started

We were really really happy when the buffet line opened at 6-ish... coz seriously hungry lor =P

Since it's a party, there will definitely be a feast! ...Right? Em, sorta XD

There was food, but mostly hors d'œuvre. In other words, finger food. Interesting stuff, though not too substantial for the guys. And dar, his sister and I unanimously agreed that the chicken drumlet wasn't that great.

For dessert there were petite fruit tartlets, spiced coffee cake (oishi! ^^ ), brownies (not so good) and fruits.

Drinks were pretty limited - only Sprite or Coke. Dar and I got two beer vouchers each too.

I loved their performance of 'Silly Lily'. Seriously hot. They reminded me a lot of ELLEGARDEN. Woot~!

The Break B Boys were also AWESOME with their high energy, jaw dropping break-dance routines.

There was also another band but didn't manage to like their songs much >.<

Kakiis Nite Out was fun!

Although we didn't win anything, whether in the photo category or the night's games, it was still a great bash. Hey, with a venue like Ministry of Sound, the atmosphere's definitely already there ^^

And... although my photo submission didn't sweep the judges off their feets (wasn't expecting that too la anyway, although I do want a new cam XD ), it's awesome to know that it was shortlisted and made an appearance during the event's slideshow ^^

Will blog more of the event and include photos once the boyfie's done with them =)

I super ♥Neopets' Key Quest~!

Key Quest is basically Neopets' multiplayer (min 2 ppl, max 4 ppl) online board game.

As usual, since it's Neopets, the game's graphics are cute but (thankfully XD ) not overly adorable and the mini games are moderately challenging.

I'm orenji_sora on neopets. Neofriend me (only applies to those with no criminal tendencies ya) if you're on neopets too! I'm nice and not Frankenstein's sister =P

We watched the much hyped Twilight XD

I like the Cullens and that fuels my interest. But honestly, I think the storyline's a wee bit over-the-top.

Nevertheless, although I did end up rolling my eyes a few times, Twilight's an enjoyable bit of escapism I don't mind watching again ^^

Pluuus, I've got a new fav sport. Vampire baseball. Kekeke.

I'm so glad I didn't yield to the pre-finals stress and trauma, and sat for all my exam papers. Giving up and dropping out for a semester would have been one the biggest mistakes I've made.

Unexpected results. Lol... honestly thought I'll get through uni without a single High Distinction. Thanks everyone for the support =)

And because of that...

My average increased to 71.25! XD

'A Moment With Your Kakiis'

[Us foodies and kakiis sharing a yummy meal of Melaka's famous Sate Celup]

A (good) picture is worth a thousand words, and every picture tells a story.

This picture may be simple, but to me and the other "hands" in the picture, it's worth all the words in the world as it represents the relationship we share - as each others' kakiis ^^

We are by no means similar, each from different parts of Malaysia and with different tastes and preferences. As seen in the picture, us 9 girls even have different ways of holding the lidi (stick)! XD

However, just like the circle we've formed with our hands, our friendship has strengthened into a bond of unity throughout the 4 day PJ-PD-Melaka-PJ roadtrip we embarked on together.

In the process, we realized that despite our differences, we do have similarities which make us gel... such as a love of food that saw us reveling in the mouth watering delights Melaka had to offer.

Hence, the picture of me sharing a "close-knit" dinner with the angels, a.k.a. kakiis, in my life. Sometimes, it's a shared moment like this which serves as a reminder of how lucky it is to have buddies to ride the ups and downs with =)

Thanks Yi Qing, May Zhang, Pei Rong, Yen, Emily, Sze May, Su Sean and V for keeping the circle of friendship, and making it a great time ^^
